NHLC - Where play is a child's work…

Founded in April 2005, NHLC is a ministry partnership between FUMC Lewisville and Christian Community Action (CCA). The mission of NHLC is to provide low cost daycare for the children of low income families.

NHLC provides a loving, nurturing environment where children are encouraged to develop spiritually, emotionally, socially,  academically, and physically at their own pace. NHLC is open from 6:30am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday, year round.  We provide care for children from birth to Kindergarten entrance. We are funded in part by tuition payments, grants, donations, and Texas Workforce's Child Care Services.

Volunteer Opportunities

We welcome individuals of all ages, generally in two hour shifts, beginning at 8:00am. Some volunteers come to NHLC every week; others come once or twice monthly. Still others come on an "as needed" basis. The time spent volunteering at NHLC does count towards service hours for middle or high school students. Children under the age of 14 must have a responsible adult accompany them to volunteer.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Rocking babies all day long!
  • Helping with classroom activities from 8:00am until 6:00pm, in 1, 2, or 3 hour shifts.
  • Children's nap time - patting little ones to sleep and remaining in the classroom so that our staff may go to lunch.
  • Childcare volunteers are especially needed from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. This is a great opportunity for our school age volunteers - arriving at 4:30pm or 5:00pm is fine.
  • Cooks who work together in teams on a rotation schedule. We provide all the food and instructions for 2-4 cooks to prepare daily hot meals.
  • Special events to include bringing in Kids' Meals, pizza, holiday parties, etc.
  • Small groups (10 or less people) are welcome to read and play with our children
